GHOST SIGNS

"WHAT'S OLD IS NEW"

Brick walls…they’ve been around for years, and many a store sign or advertisement has been painted on them. But as the years passed, and the elements of nature faded the paint on the brick, they soon became known as “ghost signs,” remnants of what once was.

Many would say these painted signs have an admirable permanence and weather-beaten grace that can’t be matched by today’s noisy digital and vinyl billboards.

As the past has all but faded to a distant memory, torn down, and rebuilt into something new—a desire to reminisce, recycle, and restore what once defined the landscape has emerged. Sign painters use brick to evoke a sense of yesteryear in what was old is new…and another lost art form brought back to life.
